Results of the Annual Own Choice Contest 2008
A great day was had by all who attended the GBBA Annual Own Choice Contest on Sunday 19th October 2008. The adjudicator for the day was Derek Broadbent and these were his results:

Section D - Youth/Training and Un-registered bands
Gold Award Lydbrook Training (R. Morgan MBE)
Gold Award Usk Youth (J. Jones)
Silver Award Cinderford Academy (C. Lewis)
Bronze Award City of Bristol Training (S. Ellis)

The special award to the best instrumentalist in this section went to the Euphonium player from Usk Youth.
The youngest player of the day was Rebecca Jessop at 7 years old and a member of Cinderford Academy.
The Band of the day with the most players under the age of 14 years of age went to City of Bristol Training who had 13 members in this category.

Section C - Fourth Section bands

March

1st Bream Silver (H. Cole) - 79 points
2nd Pangbourne & District (S. Lewins) - 78 points

Test Piece

1st Bream Silver (H. Cole) - 179 points
2nd Pangbourne & District (S. Lewins) - 174 points

The special award to the best instrumentalist in this section went to the Euphonium player from Bream Silver.
The John Jones Memorial Trophy for the best Trombone section also went to Bream Silver.

March

2nd Pillowell Silver (S.Ruck) - 82 points

The special award to the best instrumentalist in this section went to the Soprano player from Pillowell Silver.

Section A - First and Championship Section bands

March

1st Cinderford (C. Lewis) - 88 points
2nd Lydbrook (S. Sykes) - 87 points
3rd City of Bristol (I. Holmes) - 84 points
4th Swindon Pegasus (S. Armstrong-Watkins) - 82 points

2nd Cinderford (C. Lewis) - 186 points
3rd City of Bristol (I. Holmes) - 184 points
4th Swindon Pegasus (S. Armstrong-Watkins) - 181 points

The special award to the best instrumentalist in this section went to the Solo Cornet player from Cinderford Band.
Cinderford also took home trophies for the Best Bass Section of the day and the Cornet player of the day.
Lydbrook were awarded additional trophies for the Best Horn Section of the Day, the Best Percussion Section of the Day, the Best Flugel Horn player of the day, the best Euphonium player of the day and the Best Instrumentalist of the Day.

 

 

Results of the Annual Own Choice Contest 2007
On Sunday 14th October 2007, the Forest Theatre was once again filled with music as we held our annual own choice contest. Bands prepared a march and a test piece for adjudication by international artist Simone Rebello. The results are as follows:

Section D

For the first time, Gold, Silver and Bronze Awards were presented to each band in this section, dependant on their own merit.
